Although there are hundreds of hair salons in San Diego, a handful of new salons are skipping scissors and dyes altogether and only offering blow-dry styling. The owners say they fill a needed niche in the hair industry, giving women the style they desire between getting haircuts.

Some also offer adult beverages like wine, champagne and cocktails to add to the blowout experience.

Blow dry bars offer hair drying and styling, ranging from straight looks to "up dos" for formal events.

Sessions last about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the complexity of the clients' hair and desired hair style. Some San Diego salons also have started advertising "blow-dry bar" services, but still offer normal cut and dye service.

San Diego is just joining the trend of blow-dry bars, which was gaining popularity in fashion capitals like Los Angeles and New York and have spread to the rest of the country.

Pure the Blowout Bar, a locally owned salon, opened in Encinitas in 2013.

They spent about two years developing the branding, styling and marketing for Pure the Blowout Bar and they hope to continue to expand their look and feel.

Pure the Blowout Bar caters to working professionals, housewives and college students. They hire local licensed cosmetologists, many of whom also have experience with cutting hair.
